Minutes Relating to Looe Seniors AGM 2024
The Chair & Secretary (Alan Harmer) opened the 36th meeting of the Seniors Section at 0905hrs and welcomed the 19 members attending. Members were asked to stand and offer a short period of applause in memory of Tom Grown a fellow member who passed away earlier this year, and also to remember those members who we have lost in previous years.
19 members were present, apologies had been received from 16 members.
Last year’s minutes were made available to all members by email attachment and e-links. Bob Weston proposed that the Minutes were an accurate record of the discussions from the meeting of the previous AGM, this was seconded by Colin Scott.
Matters Arising 2022Minutes
The Secretary reported that the Seniors committee had hoped to expand the Birch Ward Trophy to a whole club competition. However, after the committee's ideas had been discussed with club representatives it was evident that support for another charity event was not well and little support was offered. The expansion of this competition has therefore been removed from the committee agenda.
Buggy subsidy for inter-club away matches, approved for 12 month trial by members at the 2023 AGM, was again discussed. It had been a great help to the Captain in team selection and the Treasurer provided cost to section. The members voted unanimously to continue with buggy subsidies for the foreseeable future.

Item 1. Proposal by Andy Beer, Seconded by Brian Coombes.
The proposal is that all Senior's competition draws are to be completely random.
Brian Coombes addressed the members talking of the need for players to play with all other players in competition which does not happen with a balanced draw. In his experience with this in the Mafia and other club roll ups random draws worked despite similar ranges of handicaps playing together. After some discussion, a vote was made and with just 1 abstention, the proposal was accepted and shall be adopted forthwith.
Item 2. All Tuesday & Thursday competitions from Nov to Feb (incl) to revert to Mafia style roll up format.
Item 3. All Seniors competition starts are in four ball format instead of 3 balls.
Items 2 & 3 were discussed at length with discussion for all alternatives. However, after a members vote both
proposals were rejected by hefty majorities.
